MAX22200 Octal 36 V Serial-Controlled Solenoid Driver

Analog Devices' MAX22200 36 V, 1 A octal integrated serial-controlled solenoid and motor driver

Image of Analog Devices' MAX22200 Octal 36 V Serial-Controlled Solenoid DriverAnalog Devices' MAX22200 is an octal 36 V serial-controlled solenoid driver channel featuring a low impedance (200 mΩ typ) push-pull output stage with sink-and-source driving capability and up to 1 ARMS driving current. A serial peripheral interface (SPI) that also supports daisy-chain configurations is provided to individually control each channel.

The device half-bridges can be configured as low-side or high-side drivers. Moreover, pairs of half-bridges can be paralleled to double the driving current or as full-bridges to drive up to four latched valves (bistable valves) or four brushed DC motors.

Two control methods are supported: voltage drive regulation (VDR) and current drive regulation (CDR). In VDR, the device outputs a PWM voltage in which the duty cycle is programmed using SPI. For a given supply voltage and solenoid resistor, the output current is proportional to the programmed duty cycle. In CDR, an internal integrated lossless current sensing (ICS) circuit senses the output current and compares it with an internal programmable reference current.

The MAX22200 is available in a compact 5 mm x 5 mm, 32-pin TQFN package and operates over the -40ºC to +85ºC temperature range.

The MAX22200EVKIT# evaluation kit provides a proven design to evaluate the MAX22200 solenoid driver. The MAX22200 integrated circuit (IC) is an eight half-bridge, serial-controlled solenoid driver with current regulation. The EV kit enables serial control of the MAX22200 and fault monitoring through an onboard USB to SPI interface via a MAX32625 microcontroller. It includes a graphical user interface (GUI) for exercising the features of the MAX22200 IC, making it a complete PC-based evaluation system.
