PSoC® 6 Wireless Sensor Network IoT Dev Platform

Infineon, SparkFun, and DigiKey deliver a joint IoT development platform enabling makers and engineers of all kinds to prototype sensor to cloud solutions easily and quickly

Image of Infineon and Sparkfun PSoC 6 Wireless Sensor Network IoT Dev PlatformPSoC 6 is Infineon's MCU family purpose-built for the IoT. PSoC 6 leverages a dual-core microcontroller architecture, with Arm® Cortex®-M4 and Cortex-M0+ cores integrated onto a single chip. With low power, flexibility, and security designed in, PSoC 6 enables next-generation IoT designs.

To get started designing with the PSoC 6 MCU, the PSoC 6 BLE Pioneer Kit (CY8CKIT-062-BLE) is available. To enable even more dynamic IoT system design, SparkFun has created a PSoC 6 compatible add-on shield that is only available at DigiKey. Engineers can now design with PSoC 6 and multiple wireless connectivity options, the SparkFun Qwiic Sensor system, and more.

In the age of the IoT, developers all over the world are looking for low-power methods of gathering real-world sensor data to enable end users with intelligent insights. This challenge is made easier by leveraging this joint platform from Infineon, SparkFun, and DigiKey.

To allow designers to quickly get started with this platform, SparkFun and Infineon have put together a few example projects detailed in the Hookup Guide. As the SparkFun shield is actually compatible with all PSoC MCU Pioneer Kits, an application example has been created demonstrating a smart home/environmental monitoring IoT system.

A sensor node is created leveraging PSoC 4 BLE, the IoT add-on shield, and a Qwiic environmental sensor. Data is then transmitted via BLE to a PSoC 6 BLE Pioneer Kit, which also has the IoT add-on shield and is leveraging an Xbee Wi-Fi module. The environmental sensor data is then transmitted via Wi-Fi to ThingSpeak™ cloud IoT analytics service.
