Image of Analog Devices' LTC3313 Step-Down Silent Switcher®ADI's LTC3313 is a small, low-noise, high-efficiency, and high-speed synchronous monolithic step-down DC/DC converter capable of providing up to 15 A of output current from a 2.25 V to 5.5 V input supply and operating as a 2 MHz output buck regulator. The device employs the Silent Switcher architecture to achieve both low EMI and high efficiency at switching frequencies as high as 5 MHz. Silent Switcher technology optimizes fast-current loops and makes minimizing electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) emissions easier. The LTC3313 supports an output voltage (VOUT) from 0.5 V to the input voltage (VIN) with operating frequencies from 500 kHz up to 5 MHz. The minimum on-time of 35 ns, typical, enables high VIN to low VOUT conversion at a high frequency. For systems with higher power requirements, multiphasing parallel converters are readily implemented.

The LTC3313 uses a constant frequency, peak current mode control architecture for a fast transient response. A 500 mV reference allows for low-voltage outputs. One hundred percent duty cycle operation delivers low dropout.

Other features include a power good signal when the output is in regulation, a precision enable threshold, output overvoltage protection, thermal shutdown, a temperature monitor, clock synchronization, mode selection, and output short circuit protection. The device is available in a compact 18-pin 3 mm x 3 mm LQFN package.
