Analog Devices – ADMX2001B High Performance Impedance Analyzer Measurement Module – PTM | DigiKey
The ADMX2001 is comprised of high-performance mixed-signal Analog Devices ICs that enable precise impedance measurements from 100 microohms to 20 megaohms.
The output signal chain consists of the AD9834 75 megahertz direct digital synthesizer, the AD5689R dual 16-bit DAC, the AD8421 low-noise instrumentation amplifier, and the ADA4807-2 dual-channel high-precision, low-noise rail-to-rail amplifier. These are used to drive the device under test with a DC or sinusoidal source, with a configurable DC bias and AC magnitude.
The voltage across the DUT is amplified with the AD8251 programmable gain instrumentation amplifier and measured with the ADAQ4003 18-bit, 2 megasample per second micromodule data acquisition solution.
The current measurement signal chain includes the ADA4817 configured as a programmable transimpedance amplifier, with the ADG1212 switch used to change the resistor values in the feedback loop, and the output is measured using a second ADAQ4003 micromodule.
There is also an ADT7310 temperature sensor for temperature compensation.
The module operates from a single 3.3 volt supply, with an LTM8049 dual micromodule DC to DC converter, LT3032 LDO and LT3023 LDO providing the necessary rails, plus an LTC2962 for power supply supervision.
The Intel MAX10 FPGA controls the output and uses the inputs with advanced processing algorithms and calibration data stored in EEPROM for precise impedance measurements calculations. Users can select from 18 different formats, including capacitance, inductance, resistance, impedance, and admittance values, to cater to different applications and component types. Calculating these values internally eliminates the need for additional calculation or storage as typically required by traditional instruments. Analog Devices also provides frequent firmware updates to add new features and improve performance.
Measurement times depend on many factors, but the ADMX2001B can perform measurements as fast as 10 to 12 milliseconds per measurement and achieves instrument-grade 0.05 percent basic accuracy. Additionally, the 10 megahertz measurement bandwidth is almost two orders of magnitude faster than integrated solutions.
Analog Devices offers the EVAL-ADMX2001EBZ evaluation and breakout board for easy evaluation and development with the ADMX2001B. The module plugs into the evaluation board, which includes BNC connectors to connect common LCR meter test probes and fixtures, a UART interface to connect to a host computer using a USB-to-UART adapter, and SMA connectors for trigger and clock signals. It also has PMOD and Arduino headers for hardware expansion.
The ADMX2001B enables high-bandwidth impedance measurement critical to component testing, filter design, frequency analysis, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and more. The module enables increased density and reduced cost in automated test equipment, portable test and measurement solutions, low-cost benchtop meters, embedded impedance measurements in medical equipment for improved diagnostics, and many other opportunities for new and enhanced measurement capabilities.
