Efficient management of the LED junction temperature is essential for LED lifetime and consistent color output. Typical FR4 board is less than ideal for thermal management as it has a high thermal resistance. FR4 boards with copper vias can be used to lower thermal resistance but this can add to the manufacturing costs.
