Many OEMs use generic boxes to house electronics designed to control or monitor local functions on utility vehicles. These boxes are sealed and suitable for rugged applications that are listed here. However, one common frustration point is the connection technology for the power and signal of the device. These connectors, while versatile, are difficult to work with in production of the device, as they require the entire faceplate of the enclosure go through the wave or hand soldering process. Also, the connector is limited in IoT applications that require high speed communication onboard the vehicle, as these connectors are quite dated and not designed for modern protocols.
