This table highlights the differences between the LT3743 and other alternatives. At this time, the alternatives are only capable of delivering only 1.5A to 8A of LED current compared to 20A of continuous LED current and pulses as high as 40A. The LT3743 also is capable of 3-state current control, which is enabled by the combination of PWM dimming and CTRL_SELECT dimming between two different current levels. This makes the LT3743 ideal for applications such as LED projectors which require very accurate RGB color mixing. Additionally, the LT3743 can switch between a low current state (ex: 2A) to a higher current level (ex: 20A) in less than 2µs, enabling very accurate color mixing as well as high current industrial applications such as laser cutting. Finally, the LT3743 offers very high efficiency, even at low duty cycles, which reduces the size and cost of a heat sink and simplifies the thermal management design.
