A cable must have the same impedance as the unit it hooks into for accurate signal transmission. This is called matching impedance. The most common impedance for coax cables are: 50, 75, or 93 ohms. If the system is designed for 75 ohms, then the cable must match the impedance; otherwise error producing reflections are created at the impedance mismatch, resulting in improper operation.
