An important specification to consider in selection of ICLs is load derating. The power handling capability of an ICL is not uniform throughout its temperature range. At higher temperatures, the power handling capability is lowered significantly. The chart shows a typical derating curve found on datasheets, and provides a way for a designer to accommodate these changes in power handling. The ICL data sheet also denotes the maximum permissible continuous current in the temperature range of 0°C to 65°C.
