Compared to typical symmetric supercapacitors, VMF/VPF LIC supercapacitors offer higher operating voltage for high energy performance. The series is rated for 3.8V, as compared to typical supercapacitors, which have a single device rating of 2.5V to 2.7V. They provide up to ten times the energy density of 2.7V EDLC types. Unlike currently available symmetric supercapacitors, they have very low self-discharge or leakage. These characteristics allows new circuit designs to be smaller, lighter, more reliable, and retain a charge longer. Another benefit is high current handling, up to 20A.
