VDRM Series MagI³C Power Modules

The VDRM family from Würth Elektronik are step-down or “buck” regulators that contain the control circuitry, power MOSFETs, the output inductor, and several discrete resistors and capacitors within a molded package and metal substrate. The VDRM series, of the MagI³C power modules family, comprises a fully integrated, current mode DC/DC power supply with the switching power stage, control circuitry, and passives all in one package. These devices also feature built-in compensation circuitry and a soft-start feature for a smooth, safe power up. The VDRMs are available in three package sizes: TO263-7EP, BQFN-39, and BQFN-41.

The TO263-7EP is an industrial, high power density package with a low profile and a small outline. The VDRM series offers high efficiency and delivers up to 5 A of output current with accurate regulated output voltages. It operates from an input voltage of 6 V to 42 V. They are available in an innovative package that enhances thermal performance and allows for hand or machine soldering. The VDRM regulators also have on-board protection circuitry to guard against thermal and electrical damage. Thermal shut-down, over-current, over-voltage, and under-voltage protections safeguard the regulator and include a short-circuit protection.

The small BQFN package is easy to solder onto a printed circuit board where a low profile is demanded. The MagI³C power module requires as few as five external components, and eliminates loop compensation and the magnetics part selection process. This package is ideal for powering a wide area of systems and ICs.
