STEVAL-PTOOL2V1 Motor Control Reference Design for Power Tools

STMicroelectronics' reference design for power tools supplied by 8S to 15S batteries comes with a full set of active protection features

Image of STMicroelectronics STEVAL-PTOOL2V1 Motor Control Reference Design for Power ToolsSTMicroelectronics' compact 3-phase brushless motor control reference design is ideal for power tools supplied by 8S to 15S batteries. It features the STSPIN32F0252 motor controller with embedded 3-phase 250 V gate driver and Cortex® M0 STM32 MCU.

The board implements a single shunt sensing topology and supports FOC and 6-step control techniques to drive either PMSM or BLDC motors. It can deliver up to 19 A of continuous current from a wide input voltage range of 20 VDC to 72 VDC and includes an auxiliary power supply stage with the VIPER013 high-voltage converter. The setup includes a potentiometer for speed variation, and it comes complete with a full set of active protection features.

Features
  • Input voltage from 20 VDC to 72 VDC
  • Ideal for power tools with 8S to 15S battery supply
  • Output current up to 19 ARMS
  • STSPIN32F0252 controller with 250 V 3-phase gate driver, STM32 MCU, and smart OCP
  • Compact footprint: 80 mm x 58 mm
  • Supports sensored or sensorless 6-step and single-shunt vector (FOC) algorithms
