Sparkfun has developed a development board design in its MicroMod series. The uniqueness of this design comes from the M.2 connector on the carrier boards which allows the user to swap out processor boards on the fly. Within the MicroMod series, there are multiple processor boards including the ESP32 processor, the Artemis processor, and the SAMD51 processor. There are also multiple carrier boards that these processors can be paired with, including the data logging carrier board, the machine learning carrier board, the input and display carrier board, the ATP (All The Pins) carrier board, and the DIY carrier kit. With this system, the processor is paired with the carrier board to get the system off of the ground quickly. Pair the Artemis processor with the Machine Learning Carrier for machine learning applications. Pair the ESP32 with the Weather Carrier for a wireless weather machine. With this system, the user can fine-tune their project to get the most efficient project possible by quickly and easily swapping out the processors. Designers can use the DIY Carrier Kit and Sparkfun’s Eagle libraries and guides to design a custom solution. Sparkfun’s MicroMod series is a great way to test functionality with future projects.
Features
- All processor and carrier boards feature an M.2 connector and a single Phillips screw to quickly change out processors
- Artemis processor allows the user to employ BLE 5.0 and low power as low as 6 µA per MHz
- ESP32 processor includes a power-packed processor board, including a dual-core Tensilica LX6 microprocessor, 240 MHz clock frequency, 520 KB internal SRAM, integrated Wi-Fi® transceiver, integrated dual-mode Bluetooth®, and hardware accelerated encryption
- SAMD51 processor provides the same UF2 bootloader as the SAMD51 Thing Plus and Redboard Turbo
- Weather Carrier Board includes three sensors: the BME280 temperature, pressure, and humidity sensor; the VEML6075 UV sensor; and the AS3935 lightning detector
- ATP carrier board includes all the major pins broken out into female headers and additional plated through-holes to give the user plug-and-play or direct soldered connections to the board. This board also includes RTC, USB, and Qwiic to allow the user to collect and export data in multiple ways. It also includes a convenient jumper to test for power consumption
