RZ/N2L Family of 32-Bit Arm® Cortex®-R52 MPUs

Renesas' RZ/N2L MPU is a high-performance ASSP with an Arm Cortex-R52 processor with Floating-Point Unit (FPU), NEON™, and 1.5 MB of on-chip SRAM. They are an Industrial Ethernet LSI that realizes Industrial Ethernet communication with easy adoption onto existing systems with a parallel host interface and serial host interface to connect the external CPU. RZ/N2L supports various Industrial Ethernet and Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) standards, has Arm Cortex-R52 at max 400 MHz, and a tightly coupled memory (256 KB) directly connected to CPU.

The RZ/N2L has a three-port Gigabit Ethernet switch that supports the next-generation network standard TSN and major Industrial Ethernet protocols such as EtherCAT, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP™. Since RZ/N2L interfaces to an external CPU, it can connect easily to existing systems. The host CPU can directly access the internal memory in the RZ/N2L. RZ/N2L has an event link controller (ELC), enabling the operation of peripheral functions without the support of CPU processing. This realizes the synchronized operation with low latency to the time synchronization in TSN.

offers a certified FuSa solution for RZ/N2L to reduce customers’ effort for development and certification, allowing use for safety MCU. The FuSa solution includes comprehensive software such as self-diagnostics, functional safety platform software, and a safety network. A partitioning function can separate safety and non-safety applications to avoid interference, allowing customers to reduce recertification efforts due to the separation, even if one of the non-safety applications needs to be changed and recertified. Using the RZ/T2M for motor control with the RZ/N2L for safety processing, the same integrated development environment (IDE) and tool environment for software can be used for software development for both CPUs.
