USB Type-C Power Delivery System Solutions

One port, One single cable:
The USB-C (technically known as USB Type-C) is the new standard for USB connectors, ports, and cables. The USB type-C connector is reversible, 24-pins, double - sided connector and offers connectivity to multiple end devices such as laptops, tablets, PCs, monitors, and smart phones with one single cable.
Super Speed:
Almost all devices that support the USB 3.1 use the USB-C port. The USB 3.1 has a top speed of 10 Gbps and can deliver a power output of up to 20 volts (100 watts) and 5 amperes.
Power Delivery (PD) support:
The USB Type-C allows every port to be your power, data or video port.
What is USB Power Delivery (PD)?
Bidirectional power charging:
The latest USB Power Delivery specification supported by the USB-C standard allows for power transfers of up to 100 watts (20 volts, 5 amperes), enabling fast charging. The USB Type-C standard allows for bidirectional power - this enables the product with the power (Host or Peripheral) to provide the power.
Fast charging & data transmission simultaneously:
The USB Power Delivery Specification offers Fast Role Swap capability – it enables the maximum functionality of USB by providing more flexible power delivery along with data over a single cable at the same time.
Multiple protocol support:
A variety of protocols are supported by USB Type-C ports with Alternate Modes. Alternate Modes allows adapters to output HDMI, VGA, DisplayPort, or other types of signals from a single USB port. This eliminates the need for individual cables to accommodate each type of end device.
Upstream Facing Port (UFP), Downstream Facing Port (DFP), and Dual Role Port (DRP)
Different types of USB Type-C ports were developed to support the data flow specifications in a USB connection along with the power flow direction in a Power Delivery connection.
The different port types have different roles in data flow and power delivery
Upstream Facing Port (UFP):
A USB Type-C port in the UFP configuration is used in devices connecting to a USB host (e.g., Monitors, Flash Drives, Mouse, etc.). Also known as a consumer/sink USB port, it is responsible for the sinking of power from the power source.
Downstream Facing Port (DFP):
A USB Type-C port in the DFP configuration is used on host devices (e.g., downstream port of a hub or laptops/PCs) to communicate with other devices. Also known as a provider/source USB port, it is also responsible for providing power for transmission over the power conductor.
Dual Role Port (DRP):
A USB Type-C port capable of switching between the UFP and DFP configurations. Since its power delivery/consumer role can be dynamically reversed, it can operate as either a provider or a consumer.
AC-DC Wall Adapter

AC-DC wall adapter solutions compatible with the latest USB-C (Type-C) and Power Delivery (PD) specifications are available from On Semiconductor. These highly efficient, compact, and integrated solutions consume minimal quiescent current resulting in minimized heat dissipation. There are fast charge solutions available along with solutions compatible with Nebo or existing microcontroller.

Active Cable

With the ability to interface with multiple devices on a single cable, USB-C (Type-C) active cables eliminate the need for individual cables to each end device. USB active cable solutions from ON Semiconductor enable high gain equalization, high-precision, and low jitter with full USB compliance. This mitigates the design challenge of minimizing signal integrity losses for the higher data rates associated with USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 and Gen 2. Furthermore, high speed line data ESD protection products are also available.

Smartphone

Docking Station

With the greater adaptation of USB-C (Type-C), many manufacturers have introduced many USB-C devices, including tablets, mobile PCs, and docking stations. In regards to docking stations, various USB-C universal versions are available that can connect to multiple laptop platforms along with peripherals.
