This controller has been designed to centralize and simplify line control. The NX502 achieves this with up to 254 CIP safety connections, up to 62 axes of motion, 256 EtherCAT® nodes, 80 MB of program memory, 1 Gbps EtherNet/IP ports, as well as OPC UA and SQL as standard.

The NX502 machine controller decreases hardware and software scaling costs as all NX series controllers share the same I/O connections and can be programmed on Sysmac Studio software. Since safety programs can be proven in a single Sysmac Studio environment, programming time is reduced as well. Implementation time is also kept to a minimum given that CIP safety allows the NX502 to be used where CIP safety-compatible robots are already in use.

The NX502 can accommodate up to four EIP cards on the left side of the CPU unit, reducing a facility’s total line control cost by increasing the number of total machines that can run on the same CPU. This is because each EIP card creates a subnet, segmenting the machine-level network from the database network and from the plant-level network. Each card further expands the EIP and CIP safety connections for the NX502 CPU.

    • Decreases the risk of stolen intellectual property and easy version control by locking the function block
  • Quad-core CPU which can accommodate full line control with:
    • 254 CIP safety connections
    • 64 axis of motion
    • 256 EtherCAT Nodes
  • OPC UA and SQL are installed and standard on the NX502, addressing the challenges in the industry without a separate data transfer license
    • SQL as standard means no computer is needed on the plant floor to broker the data (installation would not require IT)
  • Replay data in Sysmac Studio through automation playback features. All playback is time-synced and event-triggered to allow local and remote team members to diagnose issues offline quickly and accurately without interrupting production
