CompactDAQ Chassis

NI's customizable backplane for NI C series I/O modules connects to a computer through USB or Ethernet

Image of NI's CompactDAQ ChassisFlexibility is key if users want to manage design updates and requests with a single test system. NI's CompactDAQ Chassis has options for one to 14 module slots, allowing users to choose the I/O modules needed for their current and future test applications. It features USB or Ethernet bus connectivity and provides timing, synchronization, and triggering. The chassis and C Series modules make CompactDAQ an ideal universal test instrument for teams trying to do more with less.

Users can complete their system with NI's no-code data acquisition FlexLogger™ software to quickly configure sensors and I/O, set up triggers and alarms, create a custom user interface, and download example projects to get started faster. CompactDAQ is also compatible with LabVIEW, Python, and C/C++. Channels or modules can be added as needs change. Save time with each new setup by reusing the same software.

Bus Communication: USB vs. Ethernet
  • USB is practical for portable measurements and convenient because connectivity is easy and ubiquitous. A USB controller can connect to multiple devices that share a maximum theoretical bandwidth of 60 MB/s under the USB 2.0 standard. Although easy to use, USB devices are not recommended for closed-loop control applications because the bus is inherently latent and nondeterministic.
  • Ethernet is ideal for remote and distributed measurements, particularly those that extend beyond the reach of a 5 m USB cable. In addition to enabling direct connection to a laptop or PC, Ethernet provides widely available ports throughout offices, labs, and manufacturing facilities to offer additional accessibility options for multiple users. Network bandwidth varies based on the number of other devices connected to the network.
