Programmable Mini Controller
Kitronik mini controllers are compact, programmable input devices designed to work seamlessly with the Raspberry Pi Pico
Kitronik mini controllers are compact, programmable input devices designed to work seamlessly with the Raspberry Pi Pico. They include a buzzer for sound feedback and six input buttons that are laid out in a classic gamepad configuration: four directional buttons and two action buttons.
This board also exposes several GPIO pins: GP1, GP2, GP3, GP4, GP14, and GP17, in addition to ADC1 and ADC2. Multiple 3.3 V and GND pads are also available, all arranged with a 0.1"/2.54 mm pitch for easy integration.
Originally created to serve as a remote control for the Kitronik autonomous robotics platform (Buggy) for Pico, this controller is versatile enough for a wide range of projects or games that require user interaction. It intentionally omits a screen, helping reduce both cost and size, making it ideal for robotics and Buggy-based applications where visual feedback isn’t essential. If a project does need a display, the ZIP96 retro gamer for Picomay be a better option.
To use the mini controller, the Raspberry Pi Pico must have pin headers soldered on and be securely inserted into the onboard connector. The correct orientation is clearly labeled on the PCB. Note that the pins may protrude slightly through the back of the board, as low-profile sockets are used. Power is supplied via the built-in holder on the underside, which fits three AA batteries.
- A customizable controller designed for the Raspberry Pi Pico
- Compatible with the Raspberry Pi Pico W, a wireless version with pre-soldered headers
- Can function as a remote control for the Kitronik autonomous robotics platform (Buggy) for Pico
- Well-suited for any Pico-based project or game requiring user interaction or control
- No built-in screen, helping to reduce overall size and cost, which is ideal for buggy or robot applications where a display isn’t necessary
- Includes a buzzer for sound feedback and six input buttons (four directional and two action buttons)
- Breaks out GP1, GP2, GP3, GP4, GP14, and GP17, plus ADC1 and ADC2, along with multiple 3.3 V and GND pads, all on a 0.1"/2.54 mm pitch
- Kitronik provides a MicroPython module and example code to support the mini controller
