ISL681xxx Digital Multiphase Controller and ISL99227 Smart Power Stage

Renesas' ISL68124/7 are digital, dual-output, flexible, multiphase (X+Y ≤ 7) PWM controllers supporting the latest PMBus 1.3 specifications. Either output can be configured to support any desired phase assignment up to a maximum of 4 or 7 phases across the two outputs (X+Y). For example, 6+1, 5+2, 4+2, 3+3, 3+2, or even a single-output operation as a 7+0 configuration is supported, and, 3+1, 2+2, 2+1, or even a single output operation as a 4+0 configuration is supported. The ISL68127 utilizes Renesas' proprietary, linear, synthetic, digital current-modulation scheme to achieve the industry's best combination of transient response and ease-of-tuning while addressing the challenges of modern, multiphase designs. With minimal external components, easy configuration, robust fault management, and highly accurate regulation capability, implementing a high-performance, multiphase regulator has never been easier.

Renesas' ISL68134/7 are digital, dual-output, flexible, multiphase (X+Y ≤ 4) PWM controllers with AVSBus (adaptive voltage-scaling interface). Either output can be configured to support any desired phase assignments up to a maximum of 4 or 7 phases across the two outputs (X+Y). For example, 6+1, 5+2, 4+2, 3+3, 3+2, or even a single-output operation as a 7+0 configuration is supported, and 3+1, 2+2, 2+1, or even a single-output operation as a 4+0 configuration is supported. The flexible phase arrangement, combined with PMBus and AVSBus interfaces, allow the device to support any demanding power-supply requirement. The ISL68134/7 with AVSBus complements PMBus by providing a common interface that accelerates point-to-point communication between the controller and the load to statically and dynamically control processor voltage, thus delivering a balanced and power-efficient solution. AVSBus can be used exclusively once the device is configured via PMBus. The ISL68134/7 utilizes Renesas' proprietary, linear, synthetic, digital current-modulation scheme to achieve the industry's best combination of transient response and ease-of-tuning while addressing the challenges of modern multiphase designs.

The ISL68124/34 are available in a 40-lead, 5 x 5 QFN package, while the ISL68127/37 is available in a 48-lead, 6 x 6 QFN package.

Renesas' ISL99227/B is a smart power stages (SPS) compatible with Renesas' ISL68xxx digital multiphase (DMP) controllers and phase doubler (ISL6617A), respectively. The ISL99227/B have integrated, high-accuracy current and temperature monitors that can be fed back to the controller and doubler to complete a multiphase DC/DC system. They simplify design and increase performance by eliminating the DCR sensing network and associated thermal compensation. Light-load efficiency is supported via a dedicated LFET control pin. An industry-leading, thermally enhanced, 5 x 5 PQFN package allows minimal overall PCB real estate.

The ISL99227 is available in a 32-lead, 5 x 5 PQFN package.
