1ED38xx Digitally Configurable Isolated Gate Driver Family

Infineon's EiceDRIVER™ Enhanced 1ED38xx (X3 digital) is a family of 5.7 kV single-channel highly flexible isolated gate drivers with ±3 A, 6 A, or 9 A typical sinking and sourcing peak output current in small space-saving DSO-16 fine pitch wide-body package with large creepage distance (>8 mm) for IGBTs, MOSFETs and SiC MOSFETs. The digitally configurable approach enables predictive maintenance capabilities in sophisticated industrial systems. For example, 1ED38xx is able to register the counts of UVLO spikes and monitor the supply voltage and temperature increase. With the long-term analysis of the collected data, customers can decide the best time to schedule a maintenance cycle before the system fails. The I²C interface also enables rapid prototyping without hardware changes.

The Evaluation Board, EVAL-1ED3890MX12M, is in a half-bridge configuration with two gate driver ICs (1ED3890MX12M) to drive power switches such as IGBTs, MOSFETs, and SiC MOSFETs. The switch type can be freely chosen and must be ordered separately. Note that the board does NOT include the switches. Suitable power switches need to be placed in the sockets T50 and T60. Recommended devices include IKW50N120CS7 TRENCHSTOP™ IGBTs or IMW120R030M1H CoolSiC™ SiC MOSFETs. The board has a size of 85 mm x 85 mm x 15 mm without the power switches installed.

The evaluation board helps demonstrate the flexibility of the highly configurable X3 digital (1ED38xx) family with its rich feature set. Configuration is performed via I²C bus. It is recommended the evaluation board is used with a companion microcontroller evaluation board EVAL-1ED38X0DCT to optimize the configuration process. The EiceDRIVER 1ED38x0 DCT software is already installed.
