Image of Flex Power Modules' BMR491 DC/DC Converters Flex Power Modules BMR491 series of high-density DC/DC converters with built-in digital interfaces can deliver up to 2450 W peak power for periods of up to one second, with a continuous output power rating of up to 1540 W, thus making it to one of the highest power density digital DC/DC isolated converter available today. All other variants have power levels at 1300 W or above.

BMR491xx08/857 operates over an input voltage range of 48 V to 60 V and delivers a nominal 12 V output, making it suitable for data center applications. Other variants have an input range of 40 V to 60 V and 45 V to 60 V. Efficiency is up to 98% at 48 VIN at half load, and the BMR491 can provide an output current from 108.3 A up to 205 A.

The converter is supplied in an industry-standard low-profile quarter-brick format, measuring 58.4 mm x 36.8 mm x 14 mm (2.30 in x 1.45 in x 0.55 in) with the baseplate. The converter has an operational temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.

Some models of the BMR491 series use Flex Power Modules proprietary hybrid regulated ratio (HRR) technology, which enables them to deliver extended power capabilities, and the efficiency and resilience to voltage transients that would more commonly be expected from a fixed-ratio converter.

Operating lifespan is increased by including advanced overvoltage, overtemperature, and short-circuit protection mechanisms, and the mean time between failures (MTBF) is over 7 million hours. Heat dissipation is helped by the inclusion of a baseplate and the use of enhanced thermal conduction techniques.

As with all Flex Power Modules DC/DC converters, this device complies with IEC/EN/UL 62368-1 safety standards. Input to output isolation is 1500 V.

A digital interface is available in either 4- or 7-pin DOSA standard, and the BMR491 is supported by the Flex Power Designer software tool.
