Comair Rotron offers their field programmable DC fans with onboard processor controlling RPM, safety, and sensor functions

Image of Comair Rotron Field Programmable FansExtremely customizable thermal performance made simpler and more cost effective, Comair Rotron’s field programmable fan series have onboard processors that can control the RPM, safety, and sensor functions of the fan with or without respect to temperature via an on-board NTC thermistor. With the flexibility to change the fan to specific application requirements, it greatly simplifies product selection. This also eliminates the need for an external controller which further reduces system complexity, size, and cost. In systems with multiple fans, the programmed unit can act as the “master” and all other fans in the system as “slaves” potentially eliminating additional control board requirements. The fans also have the ability to offer a user programmed alarm function through the programming leads. Flexible RPM control ensures maximum performance when needed as well as a longer lifetime, reduced noise, and lower power consumption by slowing down when peak performance is not required.

Comair Rotron’s technology allows for the use of a single fan, programmed with different software profiles, to meet the requirements of a wide range of product variations. Using the same fan across platforms can reduce cost, reduce inventory, and simplify the overall supply chain.

With typical programmable units, the programming must be done at the factory. Comair Rotron provides engineers the luxury of modifying the profile of the fan with simple software adjustments that can be done in minutes with minimal hardware. Comair Rotron’s technical experts can walk users through modifying the software themselves, or the experts can provide the necessary adjustments in a downloadable HEX file. With these unique features from Comair Rotron, optimizing a system’s thermal characteristics can be done in an afternoon versus weeks or even months while waiting on lead times and revisions.
