ATA Series 10 W DC/DC Converters

ARTESYN / Advanced Energy's ATA series 10 W isolated DC/DC converters are suitable for a diverse range of low-power applications including data communication, telecommunication, computer peripheral equipment, industrial automation, and mobile battery-powered systems. The series comprises 14 variants, each of which is available in a mini dual-in-line package for through-hole mounting.

All ATA series 10 W converters feature ultra-wide 4:1 inputs; seven of the models have 9 V to 36 V inputs and the other seven have 18 V to 75 V inputs. Within each of these two categories, there is a choice of five single output models, offering voltages of 3.3 V, 5 V, 12 V, 15 V, or 24 V, and two dual output models offering +12 V/-12 V or +15 V/-15 V.

Fully encapsulated in an ultra-compact 0.94 inch x 0.54 inch (24 mm x 13.7 mm) plastic case, the converters have a height of just 0.32 inches (8 mm). The surface-mount versions accommodate an ambient operating temperature range of -40°C to +80°C while the through-hole versions can handle temperatures from -40°C to +80°C, both with suitable derating. Offering up to 80% conversion efficiency, the converters use 350 kHz fixed frequency switching to minimize the need for external EMI filtering and comply with the EN 55022 class A and FCC level A standards for conducted noise.

ATA series converters with output voltages of 5 V or higher are rated at 10 W power output; the four 3.3 V models are rated at 8.9 W. Standard features include 1,500 V_DC input/output isolation, remote on/off and continuous (hiccup mode) protection against output short-circuit.

The ATA 10 W series is the latest generation of high-performance DC/DC converter modules to raise the standard concerning power density of 65 W/in³. The product offers a full 10 W isolated DC/DC converter within a small encapsulated DIP-16 package which occupies only 0.5 in² of PCB space. There are 16 models available for 24 V_DC and 48 V_DC with a wide 4:1 input voltage range. Further features include under voltage protection over current protection, short circuit protection, very-low no-load power consumption, and no minimum load requirement. High-efficiency allows for an operating temperature range of -40°C to +80°C.

These DC/DC converters offer an economical solution for many critical applications in battery-powered equipment, instrumentation, distributed power architectures in communication, industrial electronics, and energy facilities where PCB space is limited and offer designers the opportunity to reduce overall PCB layout area.
