The carrier provides Raspberry Pi HAT compatibility for the Arduino Portenta line of SOM (Arduino Portenta X8, H7, and C33). It has the same form factor as the Raspberry Pi Model B and features the standard 40-pin HAT header and MIPI camera ribbon.

The Portenta HAT carrier also has many unique features, including 16-pin analog header, dedicated JTAG debugging, CAN with transceiver, Gigabit Ethernet, PWM fan, microSD, and USB 2.0.

The Portenta HAT carrier is ideal for IT professionals, system integrators, and consulting firms supporting final customers across a range of needs in industrial automation, building automation, and prototyping. Example applications include:

  1. Industrial automation
    • Motion controller for sophisticated industrial robots: The integrated CAN interface at the hardware level and the ROS container at the software level allow the Portenta X8/HAT carrier to control the trajectory of a robotic arm while simultaneously interacting with all the remaining electronics (motors, sensors, and more).
    • Smart sorting system: Increase the production rate by implementing vision-based goods sorting through a dedicated TensorFlow container while simultaneously actuating a conveyor sorting system.
