Intelligent Sensing with the Arduino Nicla Family

Arduino’s tiny 22.86 mm x 22.86 mm industrial-oriented boards ensure reliable performance within existing infrastructures

Image of Arduino's Intelligent Sensing with Nicla BoardsArduino's Nicla boards allow users to easily integrate low-power AI and machine learning into current setups. These compact devices, measuring 22.86 mm x 22.86 mm, come fully equipped with intelligent sensing capabilities. Designed for seamless deployment, they function autonomously and run on battery power. Their industrial-grade sensors ensure reliable performance within existing infrastructures.

With Arduino Pro’s ready-to-use, standalone intelligent camera, the Nicla Vision ABX00051 analyzes and processes images right where they happen. It features a 2 MP color camera and the intelligence to process and extract useful information from anything it sees. It can be trained for details so users can focus on the big picture. In addition to the camera, it has a smart six-axis motion sensor, integrated microphone, and distance sensor to capture data regarding distance, sound, movement, and vibration, making it suitable for asset tracking, image detection, object recognition, and predictive maintenance. Its exceptional capabilities are supported by a powerful STMicroelectronics STM32H747AII6 Dual Arm® Cortex® processor, combining an M7 core of up to 480 MHz and an M4 core of up to 240 MHz. Despite its industrial strength, it keeps energy consumption low and can even be powered by a battery for standalone applications.

The ABX00050 Nicla Sense ME (motion and environment) brings sensing and intelligence to the edge with state-of-the-art Bosch® Sensortec technology. The ABX00050 features a 9DoF smart motion sensor and a 4DoF environmental sensor with AI capabilities. The board developed with Bosch Sensortec allows for a wide range of IoT applications. Having Arduino’s signature simplicity of integration and scalability, it is also perfect for research projects, rapid prototyping, and development. The Nicla Sense ME introduces Bosch Sensortec’s BHI260AP AI sensor system with integrated motion sensor, BMM150 magnetometer, BMP390 pressure sensor, and the unique BME688 4-in-1 gas sensor with AI and integrated high-linearity, and high-accuracy pressure, humidity and temperature sensors. Its ability to sense and process so many different types of data on the edge increases autonomy and reduces latency and power consumption, offers more privacy, and requires less bandwidth. It is a tiny board with an extensive mix of sensors combined with high computational power, opening up a whole new range of applications leveraging on sensor fusion.

The ABX00061 Nicla Voice can leverage sensors that hear what users say, and the neural decision processor understands what users need. It allows for easy implementation of always-on speech recognition on the edge because it integrates Syntiant’s powerful NDP120 neural decision processor to run multiple AI algorithms, leveraging bio-inspired, advanced machine learning to automate complex tasks. Nicla Voice comes with a comprehensive package of sensors. In addition to its high-performance microphone, it features a smart six-axis motion sensor and a magnetometer, making it the ideal solution for predictive maintenance, gesture/voice recognition, and contactless applications.
