TPC116S1-VR Single-Channel 16-Bit DAC
3PEAK’s converter has low power consumption, with a wide 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply voltage
3PEAK’s TPC116S1 is a 16-bit digital-to-analog converter that is single-channel, low-power, high-reference input resistance, and guaranteed monotonic by design. This buffered voltage-output DAC is a pin-compatible and software-compatible drop-in product to other popular DAC solutions on the market. The TPC116S1 uses a precision external reference applied through the high resistance input for rail-to-rail operation and low system power consumption. The TPC116S1 accepts a wide 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply voltage range. This part incorporates a power-on reset circuit to ensure that the DAC output powers up to 0 V and remains there until a valid write takes place. The parts contain a power-down feature that reduces the current consumption of the device to 400 nA at 5 V and provides software-selectable output loads while in power-down mode. The power consumption is 0.45 mW at 5 V, reducing to 1μW in power-down mode.
The TPC116S1 on-chip precision output amplifier allows rail-to-rail output swing to be achieved. For remote sensing applications, the output amplifier’s inverting input is available to the user. This part minimizes the digital noise feedthrough from its inputs to its outputs by powering down the SCLK and DIN input buffers after the completion of each data frame. The data frames are 24-bit for the TPC116S1. On power-up, the TPC116S1 resets the DAC output to zero, providing additional safety for applications that drive valves or other transducers that need to be off on power-up. The TPC116S1 contains a segmented resistor string-type DAC, a serial-in/parallel-out shift register, a DAC register, a power-on-reset (POR) circuit, and control logic. On the falling edge of the clock (SCLK) pulse, the serial input (DIN) data is shifted into the device, MSB first. The TPC116S1 uses a versatile 3-wire serial interface that operates at clock rates up to 30 MHz and is compatible with standard SPI®, QSPI™, MICROWIRE™, and DSP interface standards. The TPC116S1 is available in a small 8-pin MSOP package, all packages are specified over the -40°C to +125°C extended industrial temperature range.
