4492/4496 Series Acrylic Adhesive Double Coated Polyethylene Foam Tape

3M's 4492 and 4496 series double coated tape is a closed-cell, polyethylene foam carrier tape. It is formulated for demanding indoor and outdoor mounting and bonding applications. The 4492 series flexible foam tape is ideal for irregular surfaces, speeding up the mounting process and achieving a more aesthetically pleasing installation. The tape is 1/32” thick and is known for its high ultimate adhesion and reliable performance across many surfaces (4496 series is 1/16” thick). The 4492 and 4496 series tape provides high ultimate adhesion to many plastics and is formulated for demanding indoor and outdoor general purpose mounting and bonding applications. Common uses include automotive mirror bonding, decorative trim, nameplates, and other general purpose mounting applications.

Unlike mechanical fasteners such as screws, bolts, and studs, double coated tapes leave no puncture holes. This tape can be easily applied by hand or dispenser, with no special application equipment required for a firm bond.

Double coated tape is composed of a foam, paper, film, or tissue carrier that is coated on both sides with pressure sensitive adhesive.
