PiCade for Pi Day

What better way to celebrate Pi Day, than to build a PiCade and play old school video games? Yeah, we couldn’t think of one either, so that’s exactly what we did. Take a look at our video to watch Ben and Ashley fully assemble and wire the PiCade. Otherwise click this link: https://learn.pimoroni.com/tutorial/picade/build to see the written instructions for assembling your own.

The provided link is straightforward and, coupled with the video instructions, will make the assembly process effortless. One piece of advice from us, check the screen to ensure it’s in the proper orientation. Otherwise you’ll need to rotate the screen within the code, which isn’t a huge deal.

Once the assembly is complete, download RetroPie from this link https://retropie.org.uk/download/ and save to an SD card. While still in Windows, go into BOOT(E:), there is a config.txt file there. Open it in notepad and uncomment this line of code: hdmi_force_hotplug=1. If needed, rotate the screen 180 degrees within the code by adding this line: display_rotate=2.

The RetroPie is just an emulator, so ROM’s will need to be downloaded. Use caution when doing this to avoid downloading copyrighted content.
