STMicroelectronics offers their VL53L1X, which is a time-of-flight long-distance-ranging sensor. This state-of-the-art ToF laser-ranging sensor enhances the FlightSense product family. This sensor is the fastest miniature ToF sensor currently on the market with accurate ranging up to 4 meters and offers a fast-ranging frequency up to 100 hertz. Housed in a miniature and reflowable package, this sensor integrates a single-photon-avalanche-diode receiving array, a 940 nanometer invisible laser Class 1 emitter, and optics to achieve the best ranging performance in various ambient lighting conditions. And unlike conventional infrared sensors, the VL53L1X uses ST’s latest generation ToF technology which allows for absolute distance measurement regardless of the target's color and reflectance. Ideal applications include drones, laser assisted auto-focus, and vacuum cleaners and service robots.
