Image of Würth Elektronik’s WR-FPC Series ZIF and LIF ConnectorsWürth Elektronik’s WR-FPC series zero insertion force (ZIF) and low insertion force (LIF) connectors have become increasingly common in several applications, especially when a connection to a small display or keyboard is required. These low profile, lightweight connectors were developed to meet a combination of requirements with a secure and removable connection.

On a printed circuit board, both ZIF and LIF connectors can be used with WR-FFC flat flexible cables (FFC) as counterparts. To connect the FFC into the connector housing, simply insert the cable according to handling cautions and warnings to ensure a firm connection. Compared to ZIF, LIF connectors are better for static applications because they use friction to secure the FFC. ZIF and LIF connectors are a one connector solution used to fasten wires to a printed circuit board inside a piece of electronic equipment.

The 1.0 mm pitch surface mounted technology (SMT) LIF connectors are available in horizontal and vertical types.

The SMT ZIF connectors are available in 0.5 mm and 1.0 mm pitch options with three actuator types which include black lock, hinge, and slider.

  • Tape and reel packaging can be used on pick and place machines for automated assembly and is, therefore, more suitable for SMT parts
