STMicroelectronics' X-NUCLEO-OUT07A1 and X-NUCLEO-OUT17A1 are industrial quad digital output expansion boards for STM32 Nucleo. The OUT07A1 provides a powerful and flexible environment for evaluating the driving and diagnostic capabilities of the IPS4260LM quad low-side, smart power, solid-state relay in a digital output module connected to four 0.7 A industrial loads. The OUT17A1 provides a powerful and flexible environment for evaluating the driving and diagnostic capabilities of the IPS8200HQ-1 octal high-side, smart power, solid-state relay in a digital output module connected to 1.0 A industrial loads. The system is also designed to help the user configure the application as a dual digital output module for 1.0 A industrial loads or a single digital output module for 2.0 A industrial loads.
The X-NUCLEO-OUT07A1 and X-NUCLEO-OUT17A1 interface with the microcontroller on the STM32 Nucleo via STISO620 and STISO621 digital isolators and an isolated DC/DC converter. Galvanic isolation up to 3 kV between the industrial field and Arduino® UNO R3 connectors is provided by the digital isolators and the DC/DC converter.
The expansion boards can be connected to either a NUCLEO-F401RE or a NUCLEO-G431RB development board. You can also evaluate a system consisting of an X-NUCLEO-OUT07A1 or X-NUCLEO-OUT17A1 expansion board stacked on other compatible expansion boards in terms of logic signal assignments.
- X-NUCLEO-OUT17A1 is based on the IPS8200HQ-1 octal high-side switch featuring:
- Operating range: 10.5 V to 36 V
- Operating output current ≤1.0 A
- Low-power dissipation (RON(MAX) = 200 mΩ)
- Undervoltage lock-out
- Selectable driving modes parallel or 5 MHz SPI (8 or 16 bits)
- Embedded step-down converter
- 4x2 LED matrix for efficient status indication
- MCU freeze detection
- Fast decay for inductive loads
- Overload and overtemperature protections
- Loss of ground protection
- Junction overtemperature and parity check diagnostic pin (FAULT)
- Case overtemperature diagnostic pin (TWARN)
- Supply voltage level diagnostic pin (PGOOD)

- X-NUCLEO-OUT07A1 is based on the IPS4260LM quad low-side switch featuring:
- Operating range: 8 V to 50 V
- High-speed operation (trise, tfall <1 μs)
- Process-side operating current: configurable from 350 mA (per channel) to 2 A (parallelized channels)
- Low-power dissipation (RON(TYP) = 260 mΩ)
- Configurable low dissipative cutoff function in overload conditions
- Per-channel overload, short-circuit, and thermal junction protections
- Fast decay of inductive loads with integrated catch diodes
- Open load detection
- Undervoltage lockout
- Loss of supply/loss of ground protection
