M41T6 Real-Time Clock
Serial access real-time clock with alarms from STMicroelectronics
Many applications require date and time generation, and STMicroelectronics' real-time clocks (RTCs) provide those functions. RTCs can be implemented in software and in ASIC logic, but maintaining the clock can present added power management challenges. While low-power microcontrollers and ASICs are available, the devices still draw much more current than a dedicated RTC, and often cannot operate over a wide voltage range. A better solution is ST's M41T6x family of serial RTCs. These devices lead the way with low-current and low-voltage operation and come in a tiny QFN package. The M41T66 is the latest addition to the family. It is a serial access real-time clock with programmable alarm IRQ, 12pF crystal support, square wave and 32 KHz open-drain output for handheld and battery-operated systems and capacitor backup.
