The SparkFun air quality sensor breakout features the Bosch BMV080, a compact laser-based particle sensor designed for precise measurement of airborne particulate matter. It is capable of detecting PM1.0, PM2.5, and PM10 concentrations in real time and is ideal for applications involving environmental monitoring, air purification, HVAC diagnostics, or indoor air quality assessments.
The board includes a Qwiic connector for I²C-based plug-and-play connectivity, with no soldering required. It can also be accessed via standard I²C pins for more customized integration. The BMV080 uses a laser scattering method to measure particle concentration and supports a built-in fan to maintain consistent airflow. It outputs mass concentration in µg/m³ and particle count per cm³ for multiple particle sizes, making it suitable for scientific-grade monitoring as well as embedded system deployments.
