AS6040 Ultrasonic Flow Converter (UFC)

ScioSense's AS6040, like the AS6031 UFC, is built upon the successful TDC-GP30 platform. It enables next generation UFCs for water meters but is especially suited for gas meters. As with the TDC-GP30 or AS6031, the AS6040 extracts time of flight (ToF) information using a proven high-performance front-end that drives the transducers and processes the receive signal. The AS6040 shares the AS6031’s programmable gain amplifier to handle weaker receive amplitudes, while a phase modulation provides even more robustness to the first hit level detection of the system.

The AS6040 offers an integrated charge pump that allows driving transducers with a 6 V to 17 V range and frequency from 50 kHz to 1 MHz. The higher driving energy of the transducers improves receive signals, allowing challenging mechanical setups or measurement media, like gas, with higher damping of the ultrasonic pulses.

The integrated low-power CPU combines complex flow calculation with the precise measurement front-end, providing outstanding low-flow detection capability down to leakage levels. Users can process the data through a serial peripheral interface (SPI) with an external microcontroller or use the integrated standard pulse interface. The ultra-low power consumption provides battery-operated devices with years of lifetime. The AS6040’s integrated features and QFN48 package combine to enable compact designs and a minimized overall BOM for modern UFC applications.
