E3AS-HL CMOS Photoelectric Sensors

Omron Automation and Safety E3AS-HL CMOS photoelectric sensor family solves challenging part detection applications using a red laser light source, a CMOS image array coupled with proprietary Omron algorithms, and a specialized lens. Together this impressive combination of technology tackles many different sensing applications that might include the detection of small or thin parts or targets with different colors, reflectivity, or contours. In addition to a traditional small spot laser beam, the E3AS-HL family also includes a line beam option. With the enhanced precision of a CMOS sensor, even small variations in target surfaces can cause some undesired output; however, with the line beam, the E3AS-HL can average over those small variations and provide a very consistent output. Beyond the sensor's ability to handle various part detection applications, the new family can also accommodate a variety of different sensing modes that increase the versatility of the sensor. Not only can the sensor be taught traditional background suppression teach points, but it can also set a specific detection window and can even be set up to detect clear objects without a reflector.

Like its previous E3AS series release, the E3AS-HL variation also comes with the most advanced environmental protections Omron has for its sensing products. The body is made of 316L SUS and is IP67, IP69K, and IP67G rated to ensure that no water or oil ingress can short out the sensor. On top of the inherent ingress protection of the sensor, there are optional protective covers or air blow units that can be added to keep the lens clear in harsh environments. Finally, the family also includes IO-Link, which can help to reduce commissioning time and setup, as well as provide a way to obtain measurement information from the sensor. The 500 mm version of the sensor can show measurement values in 1 mm increments, and the 150 mm version of the sensor can show measurement values in 0.1 mm increments. The E3AS-HL combines cutting edge precision technology with practical environmental resistance and ease of use.
