With its comprehensive feature set, including multi-voltage input/output (MVIO), the AVR DD family is perfectly suited for complex applications or as a companion microcontroller (MCU) in complex designs with multiple power domains.

This family of MCUs leverages on-board CIPs and a 5 V operation mode for increased noise immunity while reducing system latency by using the powerful event system (EVSYS) and configurable custom logic (CCL) peripherals. The AVR DD family’s MVIO allows true level-shifted bidirectional communication with devices on a different power domain, which removes the need for a level shifter. This family’s flexibility makes it excellent for real-time control functions in industrial controls, home appliances, automotive, Internet of Things (IoT), and other applications. The AVR DB MCUs are an excellent option for signal conditioning capabilities, featuring three on-chip operational amplifiers (op amps). Microchip’s AVR DA MCUs are a great option for low-latency control applications and capacitive touch user interfaces.

Microchip recommends the AVR DD family for safety-critical applications targeting industrial and automotive products (IEC 61508 and ISO 26262). They also offer the MPLAB® XC8 functional safety compiler license, a TÜV SÜD-certified compiler package that supports 8-bit PIC and AVR MCUs.
