Image of IXYS, a Littelfuse Technology's Optically Isolated Load-Biased 570V Gate Driver CP1596IXYS, a Littelfuse Technology photovoltaic (PV) gate driver simplifies solid state relay (SSR) design by eliminating the need for auxiliary power supplies. Standard photovoltaic gate drivers have output currents in the µA range so external MOSFETs with larger gate charge specifications are slower to switch on, making it difficult to fulfill demanding application requirements. Using a load-biased approach to power an internal booster stage, the CPC1596 provides source currents up to 9.9 mA, reducing turn-on times down to 40 μs which enables using higher power MOSFETs.
