LED Shunt Protectors

LSP LED Protection Devices
Bourns announces their line of open LED shunt protection devices designed specifically for LED lighting applications. Designated the Bourns® LSP-Series, the new shunt protector family enables LED lighting applications configured in strings to be more robust and reliable. Most LED designs include solid-state lighting luminaires configured in series strings of 20 or more LEDs. In this configuration, an open LED can cause the entire LED string to go dark, resulting in reduced performance and possible maintenance calls and costly warranty returns. Adding a Bourns® LSP-Series shunt protector to an LED design allows the unaffected lights in the string to remain illuminated by shunting current around the inoperable LED. The new LSP-Series of open LED shunt protectors is an optimal solution for a variety of LED lighting applications including light bulbs, lighting fixtures, and backlighting systems.

TBU® High-Speed Protector (HSP)

Low-capacitance and high-speed surge protection
The TBU® device from Bourns is a silicon-based, solid-state, resettable device that is placed in series with a signal path. The TBU® (transient blocking unit) device operates in approximately 1 μs once line current exceeds the TBU® device’s trigger current. When operated, the TBU® device typically restricts line current to less than 1 mA. When operated, the TBU® device will block all system voltages and any other voltages including the surge up to rated limits.
After the surge, the TBU® device resets when the voltage across the TBU® device falls to the Vreset level. The TBU® device will automatically reset on lines that have no DC bias or that have a DC bias below Vreset (such as un-powered signal lines). If the line has a normal DC bias above Vreset, the voltage across the TBU® device may not fall below Vreset after the surge. In such cases, special care needs to be taken to ensure that the TBU® device will reset, otherwise an automatic or manual power down will be required.

TBU Design Kits
Bourns® TBU® high-speed protectors are circuit protection devices constructed using MOSFET semiconductor technology. When placed in series in the system, the TBU® protector monitors the current flowing through the line. If the current exceeds a preset level, the TBU® device triggers, providing an effective barrier to large, destructive voltages or currents during surge events, thereby protecting sensitive electronics.

TCS™ Transient Current Suppressor

TCS-DL Series
The TCS™ DL Series High-Speed Protector products contain dual, well-matched, low resistance, bidirectional, very high-speed Transient Current Suppressors. By limiting the maximum current to a safe level, a Bourns® TCS™ DL device offers superior protection for very high data rate differential lines against faults caused by short circuits, induction and lightning surges.
TCS™ High-Speed Protectors are typically used in conjunction with low capacitance TVS devices to form an extremely low let-through energy barrier to excessive voltages and currents during surge events which may cause damage to unprotected high-speed, low voltage driver and receiver components.
TCS™ High-Speed Protector is provided in a space-saving, surface mount DFN package meeting industry standard requirements such as RoHS and Pb Free solder refl ow profiles.
