Smoke Detection Solutions from Analog Devices
Three of every five fire-related deaths in the U.S. occurred in properties without smoke detectors. Smoke detectors save lives, but only when they are used properly. In properties with smoke detectors, nearly one in four deaths (23%) occurred where smoke detectors were not working, or were disabled due to frequent false alarms. Leveraging our deep sensor expertise, Analog Devices can provide integrated solutions to help manufacturers engineer better smoke detectors.
Smoke detector manufacturers face four critical challenges:
- Higher performance to reduce the frequency of false alarms, which result in consumers disabling or turning off the units
- New regulatory requirements (UL217, EN54/14604)
- Power consumption that requires frequent battery replacement
- Reducing smoke detector size to enable easier architectural integration and aesthetic appeal
Benefits of ADI Smoke Detection Solutions
- Space-saving integrated module – photodiode, AFE and LEDs
- On-chip calibration reduce factory end-of-lie calibration requirements
- Reduces Power dissipation
- Particle size estimation using two LEDs reduces false alarm
- Enables UL217-compliant detectors
Smoke Detection Solution Offerings
ADI offers different levels of smoke detection solution offerings to suit your needs.

ADPD188BI
Integrated Optical Module for Smoke Detection

ADPD188BI Evaluation Board
Evaluation board for the ADPD188BI optical module. Compatible with the EVAL-CHAMBER smoke chamber and EVAL-ADPDUCZ microcontroller (sold separately)

Smoke Evaluation Kit
(EVAL-ADSMOKEKITZ)
This out of the box evaluation kit includes EVAL-ADPD188BIZ-S2, EVAL-CHAMBER, and microcontroller board EVAL-ADPDUCZ

Hardware (EVAL-CN0537)
CN-0537 Smoke detection reference design hardware for prototyping and solution evaluation. A test and verified UL-217 smoke detection algorithm is embedded as part of the installer for evaluation.

Data (EVAL-CN0537-DATA)
The data package provides an extensive (1000+) smoke datasets taken at UL-217 certified facilities for those who wish to develop their own algorithm. It includes the CN-0537 source code for initialization, calibration and environmental compensation, and data reprocessing, but excludes the detection algorithm.

Algorithm (EVAL-CN0537-ALGO)
The algorithm package includes everything in the data package and adds source code for the certified UL-217 smoke detection algorithm along with the associated algorithm development project files.
