LTC7804 40 V 3 MHz Boost Controller with Spread Spectrum

ADI's LTC7804 is a low I_Q, 3 MHz PassThru operation capable synchronous boost DC/DC switching regulator controller that operates up to a 40 V input voltage. Its low quiescent current extends operating runtime in battery-powered systems when in standby mode. Spread spectrum frequency operation modulation helps reduce radiated and conducted EMI peak, and up to 3 MHz switching reduces the solution size, ideal for a broad range of applications and markets.

As a demonstration circuit, the DC2846A is a DC/DC synchronous boost converter that features the LTC7804 (MSE package), a spread spectrum or constant frequency current mode synchronous boost controller. The DC2846A generates a 24 V output voltage and provides up to 6 A of output current. The 500 kHz constant switching frequency operation results in a small and efficient circuit.

The converter provides high output voltage accuracy (typically ±2%) over a wide load range with no minimum load requirement.

The DC2846A supports two ways of biasing step-up controllers: directly from the input voltage or output rail. The third possibility is connecting a voltage source to the EXTV_CC terminal.

The DC2846A has an extremely wide switching frequency range from 100 kHz to 3 MHz. It can be synchronized to the external clock anywhere inside this range. The spread spectrum operation is used for reducing the peak radiated and conducted noise to simplify compliance with electromagnetic interference (EMI) standards.

The DC2846A has a small circuit footprint. It is a high-performance and cost-effective solution for telecom, automotive, and Power over Ethernet (PoE) applications.
