TMF8828 Configurable Multi-Zone Time-of-Flight Sensor

ams OSRAM's multi-zone time-of-flight sensor features a 940 nm integrated IR VCSEL

Image of ams OSRAM's TMF8828 Time-of-Flight Sensorams OSRAM's TMF8828 is a direct time-of-flight (dToF) sensor in a single modular package with an associated vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL). This dToF device is based on a single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD), time-to-digital converter (TDC), and histogram technology and achieves a five-meter detection range. Due to its lens on the SPAD, it supports 3 x 3, 4 x 4, 3 x 6, and 8 x 8 multizone output data and a wide, dynamically adjustable field of view. A multi-lens-array (MLA), inside the package above the VCSEL, widens up the field of illumination (FoI). All processing of the raw data is performed on-chip and the TMF8828 provides distance information together with confidence values on its I2C interface.
