4Discovery-50 HMI Solution

4D Systems' 4Discovery family is a suite of intelligent wall-mounted display solutions that provide engineers, software developers, and product developers with the capability to develop display solutions for building automation systems and machine control.

The 4Discovery-50 Wall Mountable Display Solutions are designed to be mounted directly onto a panel, wall, or flat drillable surface. These displays feature a DIABLO16 processor that is programmed by Workshop 4 IDE software to provide stand-alone functionality. The 4Discovery-50 display solutions feature a high-resolution 480x854 pixel display, capacitive touch, microSD memory storage, a two-wire RS485 interface, a proximity sensor, and a switch-mode power supply. These display solutions also offer a daughterboard that can be modified to meet specific requirements. The 4Discovery-50 display solutions are available in 76.2 mm x 139.4 mm x 24.8 mm dimensions and are RoHS and CE compliant.

The 4Discovery-50 has been designed with multiple configurations and customizability in mind. The inside of the 4Discovery-50 includes a daughterboard that is permanently attached during assembly at the factory. By default, this daughterboard comes in a few variations, but it can also be customized to users’ specific requirements. For a custom configuration, contact 4D Systems.

The default configuration of the 4Discovery-50 is with Daughter Board 1 (DB01). Unless otherwise stated, the 4Discovery-50 is assumed to be in this configuration and the part number is 4Discovery-50 (in some cases, the SKU can be communicated as 4Discovery-50-DB01).

In this configuration, the 4Discovery-50 provides a looped dual port RS485 communications BUS. This default configuration enables RS485 communications using a 2-wire bus. The dual RJ45 ports at the back enable the daisy-chaining of multiple modules or other RS485 devices on the BUS without needing RS485 hubs or splitters. The 4Discovery-50W includes the same features as described and additional Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® connectivity enabled by ESP32-PICO-D4 SoC with an integrated ceramic antenna and a u.FL connector for an external antenna.

Starter kits are available for all configurations. The starter kits include everything needed to get started with development with that particular configuration of the 4Discovery-50. It is highly recommended that first-time users or user who are just starting their development project purchase a starter kit.
