Secure Data with Kingston's IronKey Product
Kingston Technology is the leader in supplying hardware-encrypted USB drives worldwide to governments, enterprises, small and medium businesses, and individuals who require strong data protection. In 2018, Kingston purchased IronKey, which brought its strong government-funded security heritage to Kingston. Today, Kingston IronKey drives provide best-in-class encrypted storage solutions worldwide.
While a lot of media focus is on breaches involving customers’ personally identifiable information, many other types of data are valuable to businesses – their engineering data, Intellectual Property, and software/firmware. This engineering and industrial data belongs to customers of industrial distributors such as DigiKey. DigiKey is now offering Kingston IronKey USB drives and external SSDs for their customers to secure their valuable mobile data.
The following IronKey drives are now available to embedded customers: The Windows/macOS-based Vault Privacy 50 (VP50), the OS-agnostic keypads, the Vault Privacy 80 External SSD (VP80ES), and the Keypad 200 USB drive.
All IronKey drives have the best hardware-based encryption using the Advanced Encryption Standard, 256-bit in XTS mode. They also include brute force password attack protection and BadUSB protection with digitally-signed firmware. Brute force attack protection prevents attackers from guessing passwords and eventually leads to the drive being crypto-erased with all data deleted forever.
For ease of use, all drives offer a multi-password option preventing loss of access to a drive because one password is forgotten. The VP50 and VP80ES drives add a passphrase mode to the traditional complex password where longer and stronger passwords can be created to make them easier to remember yet very secure.
The IronKey VP50 USB drive is ideal for users of macOS or Windows, with an easy-to-use graphical interface, including an eye symbol where entered passwords can be seen visually, eliminating frustration with typos. The VP50 is available in 8 GB-256 GB capacities and is FIPS 197 certified (by a NIST-certified lab ) to verify that encryption was properly implemented.
The IronKey VP80 external SSD is OS-agnostic and offers larger capacities from 480 GB to 1920 GB. It has an intuitive touchscreen, making it easy to use, with a menu-based interface that is unique among keypad drives and it is FIPS 197 certified.
The Keypad 200 USB drive is OS-agnostic and comes in 8 GB-128 GB capacities. It has a physical keypad interface and is relatively small and easy to carry. It is FIPS 140-3 Level 3 (pending) certified, which represents a high level of military-grade security, including tamper resistance.
All these drives are ideally suited for engineering and industrial applications, with keypads being useful for devices outside the Windows/macOS ecosystem, such as machines, printers, and other devices with an interface for USB mass storage. The use cases vary based on the many engineering, manufacturing, and field support scenarios.
