DigiKey to Match KiCad Donations

As the year-end approaches, so does the brand-new version 7 of KiCad.

The past few years have seen a lot of changes, both big and small, for KiCad. But, as always, the sheer volume of work that has been undertaken and completed by the KiCad community is impressive.

With KiCad’s development team moving to a yearly release cadence, there are sure to be new, exciting features making it into the EDA tool’s ecosystem with each release. These include a more robust plugin system and other changes directed towards efficiency and improvements to the electronic design experience.

This level of accelerated development has been accomplished with the help of dedicated individuals enabled by community funding through initiatives from the KiCad Services Corporation, the Linux Foundation, CERN, and countless other contributors

DigiKey has been supporting KiCad's efforts since 2018, and this year we’re taking a slightly different approach. From December 1st to 7th we will be matching donations, dollar for dollar, to the KiCad project (up to a total of $15k) to help fund the completion of version 7 and beyond.

If you’re interested in doubling the impact of your money, go to donate.kicad.org during the first week of December. Your donation (and DigiKey’s match) will help continue the accelerated development of the free and open-source EDA package.
