DigiKey IoT QuickStart Kit – Get Your Environmental Monitoring Project Off and Running in Less Than an Hour
Many IoT projects involve monitoring conditions in an environment, whether it be the temperature in a data center, the humidity in a greenhouse or the pressure in a controlled manufacturing facility. Picking a board, sensors, and connectivity can be a time-consuming process, but having to customize or develop software and a user interface can potentially add weeks or months of complexity to your project. Today, engineers and system integrators have a faster and easier way to quickly prototype their IoT environmental monitoring project or concept with DigiKey’s IoT QuickStart Environmental Monitoring Kit.
Using one of the above single board computers, the Raspberry Pi 3B+ (top left), BeagleBone Black (top right), or PocketBeagle Grove Kit (bottom), along with Machinechat JEDI One software and no-soldering, ready-to-use sensors from DigiKey, you can easily build and deploy an environmental monitoring solution in less than an hour. DigiKey offers Raspberry Pi and BeagleBoard® BeagleBone kits and bundles that allow you to build this solution. Each kit and bundle includes all the hardware and software you need to get started and finished in about an hour, including a single-board computer, SD card, and popular and multi-faceted sensors from Seeed Studio, Sparkfun Electronics, or Adafruit which measure humidity, pressure, and temperature. [Note: some bundles may come with more features].
Also included, depending on the bundle chosen, is a premium license for Machinechat’s JEDI One IoT Data Manager software (for the Raspberry Pi) or Machinechat’s JEDI One for BeagleBone. Sensor data is quickly gathered using the integrated HTTP and TCP-based data collectors. Custom data collector plug-ins allow for collecting data from any device, sensor or application without altering their native protocols. With the drag-and-drop menus, creating professional user-friendly dashboards and configuring sensor monitoring and data storage for your IoT project are quick and easy. JEDI One’s modern browser-based graphical user interface with SSL and multi-user support provides access to your project data from anywhere on the network. A system dashboard view allows for a custom background image as well as flexible layouts, to best visualize the data for your project’s specifications.
The bottom line? For development engineers and system integrators that means no soldering, no on-going cloud subscription, no always-on Internet connection, and even better – no hours or weeks spent coding or writing custom software.
With the IoT QuickStart Kit and bundles, it takes just a few simple steps to get up and running with your environmental monitoring project. First, get your Raspberry Pi or BeagleBone set up. Then connect the sensor to your board. Finally, a little configuring is needed, followed by setting up the dashboard. These solutions can easily be adapted or added to with other sensors as well. You can access easy step-by-step instructions for building your own monitoring solution here:
